Round 3 Wrap

Round three of the mid Gippsland football netball league saw the competition taken in Anzac Day. With competition across both Saturday and Sunday there was plenty for everyone to get their teeth stuck into.

 

Things kicked off with a close one as Yinnar made the trip to Tarwin. Yinnar had a healthy halftime lead however Tarwin flew home late to get within a straight kick at the final siren.

 

Yinnar may consider themselves lucky to have held on playing out the last term with just 17 players.

 

Foster and Thorpdale had the Twilight game at Foster. Coming off a huge score the week before Foster went in as favourites. Foster had a healthy lead at the main break however a resolute Thorpdale push them in the second half. With several injuries in their side Foster did well to hold on to a 53 point final margin.

 

The Saturday night game saw Mirboo North welcome Boolarra to town. The home side had some serious inclusions to their lineup in VFL quality player Liam Nash and Major league footballer Josh Hamilton.

Inaccuracy in front of goals hurt the visiting side with their one goal nine representative of many a wasted opportunity at halftime. Mirboo North never let Boolarra  back into the game and runaway easy winners in the end.

 

The Sunday set was highlighted by a cracking contest between the winless stony Creek and Newborough. Stoney Creek held an 11 point lead at the last change but we’re rundown by an inspired Newborough who chalk up their first win of the season.

 

And speaking of first wins for the season Toora managed theirs as well. Youngster Tex Dyson managed three for Toora as they enjoyed a comfortable six goal win over Morwell East.

 

At the opposite end of Gippsland Hill End welcomed Fish Creek to their ground. Hill End coming off a pair of wins to start the season and Fish Creek with a ledger that red 1-1.

Fish Creek jumped Hill end early and slammed on four quick goals and Hill end were never quite able to recover battle as they might throughout the course of the day.

Fish Creek proved too strong and ran out comfortable winners the Weidermann boys Jack and Rhett were in everything for Fish Creek while veterans Johnston and Morrow were joined by youngsters Riley and Paul as the better players for Hill End.
